Default Apartment Search

I apologize to you all upfront - I'm sure this question has been raised before so I'll try to make it simple. I'm a single 26 year old who will be moving to Providence very soon. I don't know anybody there and would like to live in a place amongst peers/people roughly my age (you know... not a college scene but not a place full of families either). For a price, something like a 1 bedroom for under $1000 would be desirable. Does anybody know of good apartments that seem to fit what I'm looking for?

Also, is the population of Providence growing or shrinking? I've heard statistics from the last few years that seem to show both. I'm confused.

Thanks guys

Sounds like you want the East Side of Providence. Look at Craigslist for East Side apts. You should be able to find a decent one bed for slightly under 1000. And yes, you're right, this question has been answered before! To search previous threads, click on the name of the state.

You know, why doesn't city data forum come with instructions????? Hey administrators, how about a page with instructions, rules, and also info on how to post photos, etc.

Try East Side of Providence and also Federal Hill. The areas on the East Side right around Brown tend to be more undergrad-aged students, but if you venture further north or south you'll find lot's of other young single folk. Same with Federal Hill. 1000 should be enough for a 1BR. Now is the time to rent, there are TONS of For Rent signs around.

Providence grew in population from 1990-2000 by about 13,000 people, even though the census had predicted a decline. Recent projections have shown a decline but I wouldn't put too much faith into them given the census's track record. Also there have been lots of condo conversions and new housing construction in the past few years so I further doubt it's declining much.

To all interested,
All I really need is a place to hang my hat. A place to rest and shower during my off time. One room with a bed and a bureau is fine.

I would have posted a new thread about this.. but check out Pawtucket. Look on craigslist- there is a search feature that allows you to choose how much you want to spend and it will refine your search to only places in that range
