Default East side for vacation

Hi- I'm visiting my (elderly) family tomarrow for the long weekend. I'm staying on the East Side. Can you recommend stuff to do and a good Portuguese restaurant for my Hubby myself and is family friendly for our 2 yo son? I was thinking of seeing Waterfire but I don't know if I want to drag my toddler to that... Thanks!-leighland

Go see Waterfire on Saturday night downtown, and for Portuguese, go to Madeira (Warren Ave) or Estrela do Mar (Broadway) in East Providence.

I couldn't stay long but I had a fabulous time. I forgot how absolutely beautiful the East Side is. Would consider moving back, esp. with the new Whole Foods on Main. That Eastside Market is great too.
