Does Price Rite really save $$ just by not advertising and having a less fancy store, or are you getting foods that are not as high quality as the supermarket? Are they loaded with pesticides and imported from who-knows-where? I just don't get how it can be that much cheaper.

Price Rite is cheaper because they carry a lot of non name brand items. They have some lower quality produce, although it's not too bad. The stores are not 'pretty'. It's a very basic set up going on there. Not like Whole Foods or Stop and Shop, which are nice to look at inside.

I have shopped at Price Rite a few times to save money, but they don't carry everything that I need, and I really do not like making two trips to two separate markets. So I usually skip on PR and just do it all at Stop and Shop, even though it's more expensive. I guess I'm paying for the convenience of one-stop shopping...

If you do go there, I would recommend going on an 'off'' time. Such as the middle of the day on a random Tuesday or something....to go at night right after work or on a weekend is just asking to be totally aggrevated and wait in a big line.

Hope this helps!

Price Rite is a pretty good deal when you aren't forced to completely rely on shopping for everything there. While most of the things they sell are store brand products they also have an inventory of brand name goods, just like you would find at other grocery stores. The trick is that these brand name items will appear and disappear so you cannot rely on them being there the next time you visit the store. Instead of brand name mayonaise you might find brand name pasta.

As to why their foods are cheaper it certainly can be explained with less overhead costs. Yes, a Price Rite store isn't as fancy as a Super Stop and Shop. Instead of picking things out of shelves you'll pick things out of boxes sitting on palettes or shelves. Then there's the location of the stores. They're often not really in the most convenient places. Finally, there's less of a markup on items. I have repeatedly found the exact same thing I would buy at Shaw's or Stop and Shop for a considerable cheaper price.

I would definitely say to give Price Rite a try.

I've never been to PriceRite because i don't care for the area where it's located. I think if you've ever had ShopRite brand products, that's what you're getting at PriceRite.

Wakefern is the company that began ShopRite, which is a co-operative like IGA(all stores independently owned/operated).
Wakefern is the owner/operator of PriceRite.
