Hm, my friend from RI made me laugh one day by referring to "maatha stewaat." I made her repeat it, I was so tickled : )

The Rhode Island Dictionary [ILLUSTRATED]
I bought this book about 15 years ago or so when it first came out for my boss at the time, who was from West Virginia.

LOL I don't think they do....when I moved from RI to MASS in the 70s'- the kids in MA used to make fun of me for MY accent ! LOL !! I didn't know I had one then !
ALL the states in NE have different accents- especially ME-MA and RI those are the places where the language and lingo varies and not only do you speak funny- but different words mean different things. (frappe-cabinet-ect...)
I love visiting my family and cousins- and now that I've been away for 20 yrs- I can hear their accents and I think it's a riot.

I have to say, Vermont and New Hampshire don't seem to have as obvious accents (at least in a pervasive sense) as the rest of New England. I've always wondered why that is...

I worked with a lady from Rhode Island and she said she had to work to keep the accent after being away for pretty long. I guess she liked standing out in the crowd.
In eastern Pa we're without an accent, unless you talk to an older Pa dutch person.
If you watch "Green Acres" and listen to Fred Ziffle, thats pretty much like the Pa dutch guys I remember as a kid. Although they might not speak english with each other.
I took an accent test and got "no accent".
