You got any more concrete info about that?

How are the bike lanes? Sketchy taking a bike around, or not so bad?

There are no bike lanes, except for one on Allans Ave strangely enough. Biking in Providence is easy though, especially to go downtown, I think.

I lived just off Smith Street in the Catholic Triangle (Near Providence College) for nearly a year without a car and I was in my late 40's at the time. It is far, but definitely walkable to get to the Shaw's. The bus will get you most other places you need to go.

That's pretty brave. That's one of the worst neighborhoods to live without a car.

In response to the OP, it is definitely possible to live without a car. I know people who live on Federal Hill that do it. Wayland Square is the easiest because of the nearby grocery stores, but it's also one of the more expensive neighborhoods.

If you're a student at one of the colleges, you should get free bus transportation with your ID card. I know Brown, RISD, and PC get it. I'm not sure about JWU.
