Methinks Dutch10's comment may have been a tad sarcastic.

Hmmm How about a Casino that ISN'T in the states back pocket??
Twin rivers and Newport grand get so many breaks from this state it is rediculous, and also the reason that there isn't a major casino in the state yet. The 2 gaming facilities here threatened to cut the amount of money that they give the state if they allowed a real casino to move into town.
A casino Just HALF the size of Foxwoods would benifit this state ten fold.
There would be thousands of jobs for every field, Hospitality, accounting and technical not to mention the local bidding to build the place and the tax revenue would help this state turn around.
Why are we letting Conn. get all our money?

I know many are against a casino in this state and at first I was too, but we already have these 2 wanna be casinos here, why not get the real deal and reap the benifits from it?

higher prices mean more revenue for state taxes. that means gvt officials are really bothered only if prices for things are cheap.
don't let both buisnesses and government dems and republicans fool ya. there are experts that work for both entities and they conspire based on sociological studies and got their sights on the grab bags for money influence power and control before anybody else.
so long as most of the people have full stomachs they know not to worry. so long as the gvt is pro $ support for the cops which they always are they are well protected to continue to be incompitant to make improving changes for the qualtity of life here for people who aren't on their pay roll.
but of course we need the cops because because of the criminal element of all sorts and extremes everywhere which is REALLY THE ROOT TO ALL OF OUR PROBLEMS, being them simple or complex.
also. there are too many other state employees that do not get the concept that people that reside here who own and work for private buisinesses and property owners pay there salaries and that first and foremost is thier money first. and without our income they have none as well.
my solution, is ri has to become more independant on it's local resourses. lower taxes to 3%. take the losses on the property crash if 3% reduction doesn't work. and live judeo-christian value like within it's borders instead of like pigs in a hurry.
the people that can afford to bail out this state should all contribute to eliminate the debt, and fire those who have been responsible, and all voters who voted them in should have a reference mark of that next to their i d.
then let our neighboring states keep their high taxes and prices. but there is always the CAHOOT factor that needs to be eliminated for power and control.
if we want prosperity i believe we that have, have to make sacrafices asp
now start laying off state workers and let them live here tax free for a year or two until they get hired for private companies or have to relocate.
once word gets out that ri has the cheapest taxes, and is debt free, with a reasonable cost of living, it'll be like millions of tiny rain drops falling all at once, opposed to waiting for that one big rain drop that hasn't been amounting to a puddle of spiddle for the lessening of the many well off this state once had.

as a concern for other people that do not know when to limit themselves, i'm against legalized gambling as well. otherwise this is a free choice individuals have to make wther or not to gamble and as to how much and as to how often. is it a lucrative means for attaining income? it surely prooves to be ecspecially for the regulators. that's good for the state as a whole. keep it legalized. but do'nt depend on it forever and as a main source. should that income continue to be so taxed? i say yes so long as the good state of ri and i quout the "good" state is in debt. but once we get out of debt, if we ever do 'maybe once people learn the original meaning of the the word "Hope" in our states motto, maybe it won't be never.' the gvt should lay off the tax rate so the working man and woman will earn more. but if company doesn't increase their staffs wages etc... then let the socialist hyeiners after the capitalist pigs. then maybe if there is any righteousness maybe the workers can get some more that way.

I dont understand whats wrong with people in this state, some goodie twoshoes are against the morals of legalized gamneling......Does anyone of you people reallize that if we dont allow it here that Mass as well as Conn with both continue to benefit while RI remains a simple pass through with no gain whatsoever. By the way, the people commuting through this state wont even stop for butts any longer since they will be too expensive. So no money will be spent here at all, and the added revenue to run this state will simply pass on to mass and conn. If you think not allowing gambeling in this state will help the people you are wrong, ever been to foxwoods and see all the RI license plates? its amazing.

Yeah, those Democrats all over the country are known for lowering taxes on the middle class and cutting state spending

We really do need the state to raise taxes on businesses and make those job creators pay their fair share-the climate in RI isn't nearly hostile enough to business, and what a great way to lure employers to the state. Plenty of empty buildings for them to move into, too.

Gambling? We'll only truly reap rewards form that if our casino is on par with Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. Typically I suspect it will be typically Rhode Island- too small, too little parking, crappy roads getting in and out, dingy and poorly run. A fattend cow ready for plucking by the state and municipalities....RI can't even straighten out the DMV for God's sake.
