I'd be fine with going to Westerly but if another beach within 20 miles has bigger waves...I'd do that instead.

well if you enjoy surfing, surfers tend to go to narragansett/scarborough or fenway in westerly for best waves. Remember RI surfers only use longboards!!

Any unofficial/offical nude beaches in RI?
Nice thread the Ocean State. BTW, I understand there is no longer a nude section of the beach at Moonstone Beach.
Are there any nude or semi-nude beaches in RI these days?

Seasides is about 20ft from the water maybe? I know the westerly town beach does the same thing, and you must be a town tax payer to join. As far as fenway/weekapaug, you get buttons and that gives you access to the beach and past the patrol (my cousin does this) That beach is sectioned off by the jetties sp? To get a button you have to live in weekapaug (my grandparents have a beach house there) and there are a limited number of buttons passed out to members of the weekapaug club I think.
found a picture of what the private town beach looks like, they also have a sign

There is also the misquamicut club (worked at the golf course one summer), but thats uber exclusive for wealthy watch hillers. To get in there they have a legacy policy, where to be members, you have to be grandfathered in. For instance, a new family that wants to join, pays the club membership fees, but only then the kids become members, and they become full members when they are older, while the parents never become members. Really strange and rediculously expensive.

Well I never! Ha, that's just so bizarre to me, especially the last paragraph. It's hard for me to wrap my mind around it...
I feel my left coast roots are very exposed right now.
But thanks for the info! I appreciate it!

well if your feeling Richard Hatch-ish, you can no longer hit up moonstone but there are a few places in MA.
Nantucket: Public nudity is unofficially tolerated in the area between Miacomet Beach and Surfside Beach. [14]
Martha's Vineyard: - Moshup Beach in Aquinnah in contains an area where public nudity is unofficially tolerated.[15][16] (Both the area and the beach are often called "Gay Head".)
- Lucy Vincent Beach in Chilmark contains an area where public nudity is permitted.[17]
- MVBoat offers private charter trips on which nudity is permitted.[18]
Provincetown: Public nudity has at times been tolerated on the beaches around Provincetown, especially in the small area that is not part of the Cape Cod National Seashore. [19]

Thanks guys, gonna hafta google Richard Hatch now. I hope that search doesn't result in a big picture of a hairy naked man (bleeechchhh!).
Personally if I'm gonna bother to suntan, it's gotta be in my hand-made black thong. Who needs tan-lines? (Especially when you're this handsome!)
Anyway, I guess I'll stick with the secret spots I like on Conanicut.

Would Scarborough or Fenway in Westerly have a noticably edge over Misquam or East Beach daily...and how much better?
Also...would I need a longboard or be fine with a boggie board?

Growing up in narrgansett, we had car stickers for the parking lot and buttons you had to show to get on the beach, had to get them from town hall. jumping over the seawall was an option for a while, till they wised up and started posting security guys around, (sad) of course i realize now just how small the beach was and if the whole of northern RI descended upon it in one day ....... When i moved to NC i remember asking: "how much is it to get on the beach?" people thought i was nuts.

I'll ask again
1) Would Scarborough or Fenway in Westerly have a noticably edge over Misquam or East Beach daily...and how much better?
-Is it worth the drive or is East Beach just as good?
2) Would I need a longboard or be fine with a boggie board?
3) Are there any good websites for water temps and surf?
