1) Does RI have a good amount of NY sports fans?
Yes. On certain levels yes it does. There are some Giant and Yankee fans as well as a small Jets and Mets fans (yay me <_<). I would say since the Red Sox and Patriots won titles however, the bandwagon has come through RI.
2) If so...where...statewide or in certain places?
All over really.
-For what teams and sports?
Yankees and Mets. I would say more Italian Americans love the Yankees then the Red Sox or Mets. Giants in Football. Not any Ranger/Islander or Knicks fans though. At all. The Celtics and Bruins have been around for too long.
-Is it more than other NE states excluding CT (which is really tri-state NY)
Yes. Definitely.
3) Why would RI have an influence for NY sports?
The Giants were on TV before the Patriots and many considered themselves Giants fans until the Patriots won those Superbowl Championships.
Italian-Americans LOVE the Yankees. Italian-Americans inhabit RI. Soo.. It makes sense. As for the Mets, it's just anti-Boston resentment but not wanting to like the Yankees I guess.
Also the Patriots and Red Sox were basement dwellars for years. When I grew up I would never even think of cheering for the Pats but I loved the Jets. They weren't winners but they beat the Patriots.

I do not think many RIers would root for NY. On vacation a few months ago in St Maarten we met a nice couple from RI who said that CT is the only NE state that does. They did not even consider most of CT New England, which is ridiculous.

CT is NOTHING like NYC. Neither economically and definitely not socially.
Another thing, New Yorkers care less about CT than Bostonians do.
How would you explain the amount of NYers who have moved to CT and those who have country homes here for equine hobbies? I just moved to CT from Atlanta and there are more Manhattanites frequenting central CT than I would like!! It is funny because many in CT have beach homes in RI. Do RIers head to the cape for summer? I don't know what it is about this ''great New England migration East!'' People up here are very mobile as compared to the rest of the country. I love it up here anyhow.
