Seeking job, climate and rent info on Providence
Hello,
I'm an ad writer looking to get out of New York City and into Providence.
The city needs to have some advertising agencies or other opportunities for a copywriter (University, marketing firm). Also, I'm considering making a move into the healing arts so a community of acupuncturists and at least one Reiki master would be great too.
Also, I'm looking to cut my rent substantially. I can live within 400 sq feet, but I don't want to pay more than $650 for it.
Finally, I've lived in the NW (Seattle and Portland) and can't live anywhere that damp. Is Providence basically the same climate as New York? I don't mind some humidity as long as there are lots of sunny days and dry days, like NYC.
Do you think Providence and I could be a good match?
THANK YOU!

I'd think that the climate in Providence might not vary too much compared to NYC. Maybe it's even a bit milder. It's certainly not damp around here and yes, there are quite a few nice and sunny days, especially around this time of the year.
You will be able to find living quarters for around 650 dollars. It'll be small, but it won't be out of the world difficult to do so, especially if you don't insist on living close to the 'highly desirable' areas.
On the job situation...I can't be of much help. I know we do have a couple ad agencies in town but I'd figure competition for job openings will be extremely fierce. On the healing arts - no clue, sorry.
Good luck.

a job and a place
My brother inlaw is a writer in the marketing field, but not around here. He lived here for about two years. It was the most depressing time of his life. He couldn't land a job writing so he wound up selling shoes for a fraction of what he was getting paid for writing out in the Los Angeles area. He's back there again. And ever since his return 5 years ago he has had three jobs writing ads earning pretty good money.
He pays over a thousand a month for rent but the apartments are upscale with swimming pool, balconies, and health spas, and tennis courts in what looks to be a newly renovated area with shops.

Providence is a center for advertising- there are a lot of big firms here. If you're serious about finding a job, you might want to spring a few bucks for this list...

I would have to disagree that it is not damp in Providence. This year has been especially damp and rainy with high mold counts in the air. After living here for nearly 10 years with no allergies, I've developed allergic rhinitis and 'm living year round on antihistamines!

Sorry to hear about your allergies. Nevertheless, go walk around on a summer evening in Seattle sometime and then compare that dampness to what you experience during a similiar day in Providence.
You might be surprised.
