Good neighborhoods?
A little info I'm originally from FL in the Military and stationed in RI. I've been here for a little bit and met and married a Rhode Islander. I plan on staying here after my enlistment is up. I'm not very familiar with the areas outside of the Newport/Middletown/Portsmouth areas and neither is my wife as she hasn't really been anywhere else with the exception of Providence and the mall area of Warwick.
We're looking for good neighborhoods that have a decent commute (no more than 30 mins) to Warwick or Pawtucket for work. The more rural the better (my preference), but any good neighborhood to raise a family in will do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the good the news for you is that just about every neighborhood in RI is 30 minutes or less from Warwick. What are you looking to spend, this would help to narrow it down a bit..

There's a lot of rural territory in the western half of the state. You might start with Hopkinton, Exeter, Richmond, and Charlestown- just drive around first and see if its too rural or just right. There's a wide range of house prices in these areas too- something for everybody.

You have a lot of options in all the areas surrounding Prov. Drive around and see what you like, what you really want. You might want to also consider the school district and convenience to highway and general ease of your commute.

Check out Rhode Island Living - Finding your dream home has never been easier! . Hollytree's suggestions for "rural" towns are a good start I would also throw in Scituate, Smithfield and Glocester. I would consider parts of Warwick (I'm biased I live there) EG and western Cranston too.

If you are looking for a rural area, i would consider South County (ie Exeter, Richmond, Hopkinton, S. Kingstown) or Western Kent County ( Coventry/ West greenwich). All of these areas are located within close proximity to I-95 and could make it to Warwick RI in less than 30 minutes. You could easily buy a 3 bed w/ 2+ acres in that price range in these communities. If you are concerned about schools, East Greenwich would be your best bet, however you won't find much in your price range.

You say if I'm worried about schools??? Is there a particular reason? Are schools in the areas you mentioned not good?

Western Coventry School are Blue Ribbon National award winners. East Greenwich has high scoring kids, but the schools are aging. Warwick has its issues but has good special education programs.
Each town has its pluses and minuses.
Coventry or Sctuate sound about right for you.
