Default Public High schools and Private High Schools in RI

I attend the EG public high school system, and I'm really disappointed, frustrated, and angry about the system and what I've seen/have to endure so far. I'm an honors student, I did a fall sport, and I'm in extra curricular activities. But I'm really upset about pretty much everything in the entire system here. The attitudes/behavoirs of many of the students here appall me, since the attitude emitted by most of the student body here is "Let's get drunk/wasted/completly trashed this weekend!" and etc. Note, not everyone is like this here. But many of them have a spoiled/rude/arrogant/troublesome attitude, that's highly contagious and irritating. It's just not the students, it's everything. The system is too old to be changed. And I really just want to leave. I'm considering dropping out because I'm so frustrated.

I wish to attend a private school, but the only way I could actually attend one is if I recieved enough financial aid so my parents could pay a small percentage of the tution or a full scholarship, which I know is pretty much impossible. I also know many of the private schools are no different that EG, same students, same alcohol/drug problem, and etc.

Any suggestions? Any comments about the Public high school system(s) of Rhode Island?

Have you discussed this problem with 1. your parents? and 2. your high school counselor? Maybe they can help with a financial aid application for a private school.

A little advice from one who has been there---
You sound like an intelligent kid who, like a lot of teenagers, is a little emotional. Getting through high school can be a trial for some teenagers. Sometimes it's best to keep a select few friends, ignore the rest, and remember that the high school years go by very very quickly!!

Talk to your school resource officer from the PD,too. he can offer perspectives that the other staff cannot.

Don't sweat it, high school, despite sounding so important while you're in it, is a distant memory and totally insignificant once you are out of it. If you even get one good life long friend out of it then I'd say you're doing pretty well. I look back at high school (it's been 6 years now) and laugh sometimes, wondering why in the hell I ever cared about some of the things I thought were important then.

There must be others at your school who share your mentality, so I'd say just stick with them. And private school isn't much better. I went to both, and the only difference I'd say was private school was a little less dramatic. Everyone had their friends and there was no "popular" group that everyone was dying to be a part of, instead just groups of friends that didn't give a crap if someone else thought they were popular. Other than that, everyone still gets wasted at private school just as much!
