Dont you find it disturbing that anyone should vote in "lockstep"?

Legislators are supposed to have wisdom, integrity, a wide scope in their point of view, and a duty to their constituents- not loyalty to an ideology or a party above all else. The modern Republican Party disgusts me when I see this going on. And I'm someone who believes in the classic more libertarian aspects of the party... but the robots? we dont need votebots in the government.. it doesnt look good.

So I applaud the NE Republicans who vote out of the "lockstep" and same for the Blue Dog Democrats around the country that are in similar situations... we need more diversity of opinion and open discussion in this country...

not a Politburo- wether red or blue!

I can unequivocally tell you that we have loved it! The area is scenic. Unlike what others have told us, the people have been very friendly and helpful. I have enjoyed numerous conversations with total strangers and was welcomed by neighbors.
My children have fallen in love with it too!
Aquidneck Island has great charm and character and is unique. I find myself looking and looking and finding new things to see all the time. The history and architecture and overall feel of the town are great. It is unlike most cities that look the same no matter where you are.
I understand that it is small and employment can be a problem, but I wouldn't move anywhere unless I had a job.
I would recommend to anyone to at least come visit the area.
Please don't believe all the negative remarks regarding the people etc. the only downside I can see are the high taxes.
Good luck with your move!
Your positive opinion is a breath of fresh air! Just curious about where else you have lived?

ediet is on a distinguished road
Hi Monkey,
I also moved to RI a few years ago and really like it. One thing I can say is "German Spy" really hit the nail on the head with everything. Taxes are high, the roads are bad, summer in Newport is crowded and the island is a very nepotistic society. However, there are a lot of towns to choose from. Churches are abundant and you could probably find a closet group to support your political views (it is a blue state, but there is the war school and many fishermen here who support the more conservative thoughts). Speaking of the war college, if you are leaving the military, that might be a place to find a job or there is NAVSEA, Raytheon and I think another technological group out here.
Good luck to you and I hope you enjoy RI!
