Best Chinese Restaurants in Rhode Island?
Hi, I was looking for good Chinese restaurants in Rhode Island. I've sampled a couple and I wasn't really impressed such as Seven Moons, The Island, and etc. I even tried the new Asian Bistro, Kon, in East Greenwich and I really was not impressed. The dishes were bland and overpriced and the staff was not courtious. However, I did go to Mumu on Atwells. Ave in Prov. and the food was pretty good. Oily but tasty.
I know General Tsao's Chicken is an extremly unhealthy dish and it isn't even really authentic Chinese cuisine, but I have a particular liking for this dish. I ordered it at Island and it was probably the worst I've ever had, overcooked and way too much sugar.
Anyone know anyplace that serves up a decent General Tsao's Chicken?

I don't know if it's still there - on Route 2 in Cranston was a chinese place - big green building with a huge parking lot - authentic chinese. A friend of mine who is a native of China took me there - incredible food.

I'm a big Chinese/Thai fanatic. I could eat that food 7 days a week.
You could try Sawadee Thai restaurant for some authentic Thai cuisine. It's near the corner of Hope and Wickenden. Lots of Brown University students.
Also Thai Star on Chalkstone is supposed to be very good.
As far as really authentic Chinese... I don't know if you'll find what you're looking for in R.I.
Boston might be better, really.
Mikey.

authentic chinese is very light on sauce, food is not goopy, you can barely see the sauce on the food, the flavors are distinct and subtle and blend like a dance in your mouth-ginger, garlic, sweet, salt, etc.
it's hot, fresh and the vegetables are still crispy. the fried rice should be more on the dry side than sticky or oily. the veges should be chopped tiny to medium-small (bite-size) for the most part, not huge chunks.
most chinese places are heavy on one flavoring-salty. it overwhelms everything else and it all ends up tasting the same.
you are lucky you are up north. i think the best chinese i've had was some inconspicuous restaurant in new jersey and also new york. it was very gourmet and perfect.

I recently discovered that Westerly has a small Chinese community now due to the proximity to Foxwoods. THere is a good Chinese market there, and many more Asian restaurants around town. Maybe you cound find some authentic Chinese there?
Has anyone noticed the lighthearted topics of our RI Forum?, compared to some of the other states. Even out on the street, despite the terrible economy, Rhode Island does not seem to have the bad vibes that exist in other areas. I guess we are just used to it.

Well, in London, during the blitz people sang songs...kept their spirits up.
Along those lines, and keeping with the spirit of this thread......
LET'S EAT!!

I really like Asia Grille which is located @ the Lincoln Mall. Locally, if we want chinese take out, HoHo's Chinese Restaurant in AppleValley Mall (Smithfield) is descent. I dont like spicy General Tao's... so at HoHo's and Asia, I ask for it Mild. Excellent

Shanghai's on Thayer Street is good(General Tsao's). I also like Thai Spice on Waterman Street (Pad Thai). Also, I heard that Hot Wok on Hope Street is good.

I think you are referring to the Galaxie. It is good. The previous cook left and opened Seven Moons in NK. The OP said he/she didn't like Seven Moons. I think it's excellent.

Try Four Seasons. I just don't know if they've reopened by now after the renovations. Excellent asian food at reasonable prices. Not superfancy though.
