Intrested in moving to Rhode Island
I am intrested in moving to Rhode Island from Philadelphia and I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where to look. We are looking for a place that is family oriented and is close to a beach, with single family homes that also has acerage away from a big city.

Close to a beach with acreage will be very expensive as in millions. 30 minutes from the beach with acreage might be doable depending on your budget. Need more info on budget!!

Little Compton or Tiverton would be the best for beach and space.

Westerly is a lovely town with an excellent school system.. Close to the beach? don't know how much space (acerage) there would be available. I live in downtown Providence, and just about ANY WHERE you want to go is within 30 minutes of a beach.

Little Compton and Tiverton are really quite out of the way. To get to Little Compton, you have to head into MA, then pick up Rt 24.
From what you say you are looking for - fairly close to a beach, land, away from city - I would hone in on Exeter, West Greenwich, Richmond, Hopkington. All within 20-30 minutes of beaches, acreage available. The Exeter/West Greenwich school district is good.

South Tiverton is better than Tiverton or North Tiverton. South Tiverton is more rural- schools are fine. Little Compton has an elementary school which is desirable. Upper schoolers get bused to Portsmouth. Little Compton is paradise on earth but out of the range of most people's budgets. LC has about 1500 to 3000 pop and is totally unspoiled with bucolic rolling meadows down to the ocean. Many houses date back to the 1700s- 1800s. There is an almost indescribable smell in the air in the summer of mown grass mixed with salt water. The town imposes an extra sales tax on all real estate transactions for land conservation- I believe there is a minimum lot size of 5 acres.
Westerly might be a good compromise & much more doable for the budget. Look at East Greenwich, Portsmouth, Barrington, Bristol. try RIliving.com

Info
The towns that you have suggested are any of them resort towns(condos, hotels, congested, traffic)in the summer??? because I am not intrested in living in a resort community. I just want a quiet laid back family oriented beach town.

RI beaches are generally not lined with condos and highrises like they are in the South, but they are heavily visited in the summer and beach traffic is an issue. RI is a summer destination for vacation- has been for ages (motto used is "America's First Resort"). Consequently, I don't think what you are describing exists except in an area that is extremely expensive and exclusive. You can get acreage in the western part of the state which is quite sleepy & which will - as previous postings indicate- put you 30 min to the coast.
