Just another piping hot summer day for you, Rnrboy, huh??? Better get yourself a Del's so you don't just melt into a sweaty puddle on the floor!

BTW, yes I am gonna whine about freezing cold Rhode Island until the day I move out of here....
First of all summer isn't for another month. Second of all, I am, frankly, enjoying today after the 90 degree weather we had last week. But of course, that was in Cranston - you live on the coast where it was a sub-arctic 70 something.

Perhaps the solution is for you to move. Might I suggest Minnesota, Montana, UP Michigan, or - wait for it - Colorado?? Perhaps Denver, I hear they had a lovely April this year.

Well guys this morning I took a survey of current temperatures at exactly 9:45 am in 35 towns located across the USA.

I just finished up with Arizona and the west coast since they're 3 hours back. Here are the results:

Narragansett, RI 57
North Conway, NH 47
NY, NY 58
Harrisburg, PA 66
Franklin, WV 71
Asheville, NC 67
Atlanta, GA 72
Miami, FL 84
New Orleans, LA 79
S. Padre Island, TX 83
Little Rock, AR 72
Nashville, TN 64
Auburn Hills, MI 62
Minneapolis, MN 65
Fargo, ND 64
Rapid City, SD 70
Omaha, NE 74
Missoula, MT 63
Gillette, WY 73
Boulder, CO 71
Flagstaff, AZ 66
Prescott, AZ 74
Phoeniz, AZ 88
Palm Desert, CA 86
Altadena, CA 65
Fairfax, CA 59
Chico, CA 81
Arcata, CA 50
Dunsmuir, CA 78
Ashland, OR 81
Bend, OR 80
Eugene, OR 73
Portland, OR 72
Seattle, WA 67
North Bend, WA 74

*The survey locations are from my own arbitrary list of interesting towns across the US and were not chosen in accordance with the dictums of meteorological science, scientific studies, or anything like that. All the temp data is from National and Local Weather Forecast, Hurricane, Radar and Report.

Amazingly enough, North Conway, New Hampshire was the only place colder than Narragansett, Rhode Island this morning!!

Well, no need to say more here! On with the day! I've let the scientific evidence speak for itself, and it said, "RI is butt-a$s COLD, duuuuuuuuuuude!!!!!!!!!!"

PohdNcrzy:

I can feel your pain. Having a true disgust of winter, cold, snow, overcast skies, and any temperature under 55 F…I truly know what you’re feeling. After the cold winter, having a cool and cloudy April and May (or part of May, at least) can be a big disappointment. If I had it my way…I would live in Key West 12 months a year (lol). There is no such thing as too hot/humid for me. The only trees I want to see are palm trees (lol).

But to be fair… let me mention something about this springs weather pattern since I have a bit of a climo background:

This spring has been unusual in the eastern half of the USA. While I agree that the Northeast USA is no Arizona or South Carolina when it comes to heat and sun…it’s no Midwest, Great Lakes, or Pacific Northwest either. The cool/cloudy/moist conditions have not just affected Rhode Island/Connecticut…but places right down to Virginia Beach, VA have had an unusually cool/cloudy spring this year (for them). This spring has been highly anomalous in the Eastern half of the USA for several reasons:

1)The jet stream has not built a solid line retreating to the north this year – but has been all over the place. 2) The Azores - Bermuda High has only intermittently built in off the southeast coast (normally, a building Bermuda High sends warm/hot subtropical air up the East Coast). 3) A cool pool of air has definitely hung on all spring in southeast Canada - sending a cool, moist, easterly flow off the Atlantic Ocean down toward the middle and upper East Coast. This May had double the number of overcast days in places like Providence, Hartford, or NYC as normal. Those numbers that you showed in your list that had warm tempretures up in the Pacfic Northwest are a bit unsual ( the strong Western ridge this spring). Providence, RI, Hartford, CT, or NYC... are generally warmer than anywhwere on the Pacific coast north of San Fransisco in May.

So take heart, after today…, a semi-faster upper lever flow will return, and the weather will become more typical for late May/early June for the next 6 to 8 days. Temps this weekend should be in the low to mid 70’s, with a fair amount of sunshine. While showers might return a bit by midweek, they will be quicker hit and miss, with at least partly sunny skies more often. In weather it’s all about how nature averages things out. A cool and cloudy April and May…will eventually average out to a month or two of warmer and drier weather than normal. It would not surprise me if in a few weeks were are in roasting in a typical late spring East Coast heat wave. One thing about weather patterns will always be true…they never last.

I you want a real tropical pick me up…take a ride this weekend down to Westerly. They planted 50-foot palm trees right off Atlantic Avenue in front of the Pink Ape Surf Shop. On Saturday, with sunny skies, temps in the 70’s, and a steady southwest breeze…if you stand under them, at least you’ll feel like you’re in the tropics (lol).

Hang in there…

Hey Wavey, thanks for checkin' in! I don't know too much about meteorology but I can tell you one thing, on a 75 degree+ morning with bright sunshine, there's likely to be a hot high-pressure ridge down in my shorts....

Weather Service: July the second wettest on record - Projo 7 to 7 News Blog | Rhode Island news | The Providence Journal

National Weather Service says Rhode Island July 2009 second wettest ever on record.

All this rain in Rhody doesn't bother me all that much ultimately, just don't give me multiple years in a row with early summers as wet as this.

It's the humidity mixed with cold during the colder months that I don't care for one bit.

Really is amazing how much and how often it can dump rain around here, keeps things steamy for sure, LOL!

Speckled_Hen is on a distinguished road
Ahhh, the cold "harsh" and rainy weather you're describing sounds like heaven to me. Here in San Antonio, TX, we're in another drought and I've lost track of how many consecutive 100degree + days we've had. The heat is so intense, it killed off a wild baby bird I was keeping an eye on, and day after day I watch as it fries all the poor vegetable plants in my garden (even with daily deep watering). Even the sun-loving vegetables, like cucumbers and tomatoes, need shade from this blistering sun. I'd love to be living back up north again, using an umbrella for something other than a sunshade, getting to wear real sweaters, enjoying a hot cup of cocoa on a cold winter's day, walking through the fresh snow, enjoying a climate that gets cold enough to actually kill off all the huge nasty bugs that grow to monster size in climates like this that don't have a cold period . . .

Well, sure looks like summer's over. It WAS a FANTASTIC four weeks. I heartily enjoyed it every day.

Boy, when you live somewhere where summer lasts a month or less, you really DON'T take it for granted.

However, after an all too brief joyous and sunshiney respite, I notice a minority of RI'ers are reverting back to their usual aggressive and very grumpy behavior:

1. Being very rude in public.

2. Honking their car horns at everything and everybody while speeding and tailgating recklessly.

3. Trying to sideswipe joggers and cyclists on the roads with their grumpy "Get off the roads they are only for cars you idiot" nasty life-hating attitude.

Thank goodness, that ever noticeable contingent of super-nice, super-friendly, ridiculously laid-back RI'ers is still prominent where ever you may roam (in RI).
