Default Considering Moving To Providence

I've heard Providence was a good place foe gay people to live. How close it it to a beach? Where are good neighborhoods to look for apartments?

Beaches are a little bit away, a couple nice ones are in South County which is about a 45 minutes drive towards the southern part of the state. If you don't hit beach traffic that is.

Good neighborhoods to check out would probably be the East Side. Depends a little on your budget though, so how much would you like to spend?

Providence might be a nice city for the GLBT community. Providence does have a gay mayor, but there is not an abnormally large GLBT population in Rhode Island. I would think that Boston, Burlington, and Portland would be the most gay friendly cities in New England.

I don't know if you have been reading some of the news about Rhode Island, but Rhode Island is over 60% Catholic (like Utah is over 60% Mormon). Most polls show that if and when same-sex marriage is on the ballot in Rhode Island it is not likely to pass, if that is a concern to you.

False.

THe most recent poll on gay marriage in Rhody was last year, and showed a majority favored it. The legislature is way out of touch with the voters on this issue. Catholics here are not all "devout". Rhody already has medical marijuana and no death penalty.

It's not much of a stretch to imagine gay marriage passing here in the next few years.
