Default Recommendation for planning trip

I'm taking a motorcycle ride this August thru the New England states and could use some advice regarding Rhode Island. I'm looking to stay off interstates as much as possible and would like to ride in some nice scenic areas. Any suggestions on where or not to ride in your state?

Thanks

Sure, although in a state as small as RI its hard to avoid bigger roads and traffic, especially during the summer. From CT, route 138 is nice, over to Jamestown, scenic rural island with plenty of places to explore, beautiful state parks overlooking the ocean, especially Fort Wetherill and Beavertail. Newport is scenic but busy. Some of my favorite country drives in the area are Rt 49 and especially 169 in far Eastern CT; New England country at its best. Southern RI especially, some of the more rural areas around Westerly, Carolina, Wyoming, Wood River Junction, and the big beaches and Foxwoods Casino are nearby too. The Hadlyme area of CT is nice too; there is a sweet ferry you can take over the river for a buck.

Route 102 going thru Western Rhode island is always a great ride. Low volume of traffic at either end. Going thru Scituate you might get a glance at our growing number of Eagles that have made the reservoir area their home. Route 94 off 102 in combination with 44 is also a good ride ride thru rural scenic areas.

I'll second the suggestion for heading over the Jamestown Bridge (138) and Newport/Pell Bridge. Just did it today (just because) and enjoyed it thoroughly. It may be out of the way, but heading through Little Compton and Tiverton (along route 77) is beautiful. You can head East from there (through Adamsville, RI) and cross into Westport MA. Westport MA and Dartmouth are quite nice along the water (and inland) as well.
