Default Nice vacation town at commuting distance from Cranston

Hello,
My husband will be working in Cranston this summer and we were thinking about renting a condo in a vacation town not too far from there where the three of us (we have a 2-year old child) could spend a few weeks. Any recommendations? We are not familiar with Rhode Island at all except for Newport, which we love, but we are wondering if we should consider other family-friendly vacation spots which are closer.
Thank you!

Narragansett, Wickford, Charlestown, Point Judith, Great Island. There are several more but less commuter friendly to Cranston.

I agree - look at all the palces ljd1010 suggested, and Block Island as well. It's a little expensive, but a fantastic places to spend a week!
