Default ***Up-date on my move to Rhode Island***

So we have been here for about two weeks now...and we love it. First, our neighbors have all come by our home, walked up to us on our way to work or when we arrive home from work, and have all introduced themselves. They have been so friendly. I understand its not like that everywhere but so far, from what I have seen, people are really nice. Its not just my neighbors but also people I meet in the grocery stores, best buy, Direct TV people, etc. etc. I know I will meet rude people but you know what...its not that much different from anywhere else except that they have a New England accent. Other than that, rudeness is the same as it would be anywhere else. I lived in my last home in CA for over a year before moving here and I never once met the neighbors. So, to each his own. Just as in every state, you always have those who hate it and those who love it. You will never live in a state where absolutely everyone is in love with every aspect of their state. For us, I believe we made a great choice. Overall, I am enjoying it all. I am especially looking forward to the fall as I hear from co-workers and neighbors that its breathtaking.

P.S. The food is to die for. I swear I think I gained 5-7 pounds in just these last two weeks.

Oh, and traffic, Paaaplease! Its a dream from what Im used to. Street road signs, construction...thats another story but I believe that once I learn my way around it wont be such a big deal, it isnt now anyway, it was only a big deal while we moved around town with our 27 foot UHaul. Oh, and grocery stores are not the greatest. They do have whole foods and trader joe's but if your looking for anything similar but cheaper, I have yet to find one. You just have to sacrifice some things in order to obtain other things. We dont mind it. Im sure we will eventually find a grocery store that works for us. Overall, Rhode Island is our favorite move so far and we are both prior military and have lived in various states and countries overseas.

Thanks for the post Fudgecopper. As I've said in the past, I am a transplant and I love it in Rhode Island as well. It just goes to show you can't always trust the naysayers on here.

As for groceries: Where do you live? If you ive near Cranston there is a great Shaw's in Garden City that has a lot of selection and is generally cheaper than Whole Foods. What are some of your fave restaurants so far?

Enjoy Rhode Island!

P.S. I just hope we have a good autumn for you this year. The last two were excellent, it makes me worried that this year might be rain rain rain.

Yes, I actually just found Shaws and its my favorite so far. I had a rude awakening when I went to my local Stop and Shop and I remember thinking "there has to be something better." Yes, I like Shaws. As far as resturants, I love Chardonnay (their clams and pasta dishes are ), I love this Dominican Restaurant I went too that I cant remember the name right now but it was in Providence by Cranston I want to say, Landings in Newport, a restaurant in Wickford (I think its called Tavern something), Hortons seafood, etc. So far my husband and I both love Chardonnay the best. We want to try this brazilian restaurant (Rodizio?? I think I spelled it wrong). Oh, and we had ice cream at the Sunshine Creamy and it was soooo good!!! There is so much food that we have eaten that we have to wait until this next friday because we spent way too much on food these past two weeks. We have to slow down and pace ourselves now. Any recommendations?

My neighbors are great. I'm single out here in the semi-boonies and my neighbors cut my grass, shovel my snow, help me with the little mechanical thingys that go wrong. My mother, when she was living here, used to babysit their kids every day for free while they worked. The kids are teens now but I babysit their pets while they're away, stuff like that. It's pretty good, huh!

Funny that you said that. I forgot to mention that one of my neighbors cut my grass too while I was gone to work! I thanked him and he said "Its not a problem. I know you both are busy and I have nothing else to do." That was pretty nice! Overall, I really like Rhode Island!! Im excited to experience ALL four seasons here.

You will find very quickly Stop&Shop has a monopoly on grocery stores in all of New England. There are a few Shaws but not much else.

Nice to hear you're enjoying the area! Sounds like you're in the East Providence/Seekonk area. From there, you can easily go over the Henderson bridge to the East Side of Providence. Try Thayer Street for all kinds of restaurants. Near Chardonnays is Audrey's, a restaurant at the J&W Inn. Gorcery stores there are East Side Marketplace and Whole Foods.

After that, you'll have to get on the East Bay bike path and work on the waistline!!!!!!!

Dave's Market is great, especially the one in North Kingstown. Like Whole Foods but more reasonable and very known for their meats.

Rodizio is a Brazilian steakhouse in North Providence. You'll have to tell me how it is, I've never been.

If you like Thai food I would highly recommend Pakarang on South Main St. in Providence. Also in that area is an excellent Indian restaurant called "A Taste Of India" on Wickenden St.

If you want primo Italian it's no secret that there is plenty of it in Rhode Island, but one of the standouts for me would be Cafe Itri in Cranston. Camille's on Federal Hill is also fantastic.

As for a taste of the Irish, (some great beer and pub grub) I would recommend O'Rourke's in Pawtuxet Village, Ward's Publick House in Warwick, and Buskers in Newport.

Oh, and if you like Japanese steakhouses Shogun on Jefferson Blvd. in Warwick is excellent. Looks like a shack outside, but trust me haha

Fudgecopper -If you don't mind me asking, what town/neighborhood did you end up moving to? My husband and I are considering making the move in a year or so.
