New Hampshire is not a friendly place. I won't even stop there to use the rest room on my way to Maine. Alot of people from MA go to live there and commute to Boston to avoid having to pay state income tax, but that too, will change. If you want a cool place to live with culture and everything you need, then, RI is better than NH by far. RI is thriving and the home prices are not bad. There are jobs a plenty. It's a modern city. It's called "The Rennaisance City" since their former Mayor, Buddy Cianci, totally changed the skyline and created jobs. It has fine universities and colleges. A theatre company and alot of incentives for film makers. So alot of films are being made there. It's a happenin' place. NH is for old crotchety mean people or type A personalities trying to beat the system by avoiding paying income tax. They say NH is the toughest in the primaries because the people are tough. A tough crowd. Good luck making friends there. They are very "clannish" and rude. Providence is a warm friendly city where you can meet and talk with people from around the globe. Depends what you want in your life.

providence is extremely liberal, but not so much in a pushy way. the rest of the state, even the small towns, seem to be liberal too. you won't hit a problem being conservative though, as long as you respect their opinions then they will surely respect yours. rhode island as a whole is a very odd state, and the people are typically not the friendliest, but they are definitely accepting of all types of people.

Jobs a plenty?
Sorry, that's simply not true. RI is suffering from a severely overinflated real estate market and it is actually quite difficult to find a decent job in the state. The best advice to give people when they ask about moving to RI is to have a job set up and ready, otherwise they'll face the same problem everybody in the state faces - where to pursue a career. It's not surprising a majority of college graduates who went to RI universities attempt to get out of the state as fast as possible. So please, don't tell people we have jobs a plenty in RI. |

Yeah there are alot of Catholics in RI. The majority that say they are catholic just go to church on sunday and that's it. Sometimes not even that. I was raised catholic and went to catholic schools. The catholic side of my family are very much liberal. Which I always thought was a contradiction. I have recently converted to Christianity, Assembly of God Church. I never understood or believed alot of my catholic upbringing because of growing up with such a liberal family.

Nothing I'm saying is being typed to incite debate or cause hurt feelings-
I'm a conservative living in RI. I was born here and I've lived here for most of my adult life. I've also lived in NH, CT, Indiana, and I was stationed on the Kentucky/Tennessee border for a few years. Last national election RI went 60% Dem and 40% Rep. Personally, I loved living in NH for the two short years I did, even the Democrats in state office were more conservative than the conservative dems here (and some of the Repubs, too). I knew people from the internet when I moved up there, so I joined up with like minded people right away (if you are a gun guy IM me, and shoot you a link). You will be driven crazy by liberal talk of your coworkers. My fist week in NH I discovered almost all of my coworkers were pretty conservative. But NH is being bespoiled by Mass liberalism. They move up there because they've been day tripping for so long, and they ruin it with the same liberalism that ruined there state of origin. Seat belt laws finaly passed, too. |

If you don't want to incite hard feelings, I'd take the word "ruin" out of your post.
Aside from that, you're totally wrong haha. But I've had this argument sooooooo many times with people that I'm sick of it. |

Yup, on Blue, but other than voting, I wouldn't say that either state is ultra-liberal, and that there is rather a good mix even in "liberal" Providence.
And go out of Providence to Warwick or down South and you'll meet many a conservative (lived there on and off for 25 years) in North Kingston, Providence and up above in Rehoboth (MA). Just my 2 cents. ![]() |

Bush also currently has the lowest approval rating in the country here in RI. 14%! |
