The nice thing about the River Lofts, at least it seems this way from reviews I have read, is that they are quiet. I did some searching on this site and it seems like Cumberland is a good, safe city. If anyone has anymore inside information on the River Lofts or Cumberland I'd really appreciate it! It's looking like that might be my number 1 choice.
buy a kayak and bike; you are right on the Blackstone River and Blackstone Valley bike path.

I have to agree with JMom85; do not go to Greystone! Seriously, the previous management was really in touch with the people living there. They genuinely cared. The current management has zero personality, are rude, and are so lax about getting things done. There is dog poop everywhere. Cig butts all over the place, garbage in the hallways and the rugs in the hallways are embarrassingly filthy; stains all over! Just try to go to management to get something resolved and you will be given the run-around. It wasnt like this before. In addition, one of the new managers left (thank god!!). She was horrible. Not just to me, but to others too. She would never keep a tenant in the loop about major issues. Never called back, never cared. I really feel that being an apartment manager is akin to customer service. You have to try to please everyone. Thats the job. If you cant do it, then get out of the business! But now Meridith is still there (another manager) and she is clueless. And doesnt come across as friendly at all. I would use a swear word here, but am trying to be polite.
For the amount we pay (yes we're still here, thankfully moving out in the summer) we should be getting a lot more. This place has become so disappointing.
So look elsewhere. Dont waste your time or money here. Good luck!!

Funny...I own a multifamily residence in Cumberland and I happen to have a 3rd floor vacancy.

But...I'm not sure what your idea of a "bad area" would be. Our house is in the Valley Falls section of Cumberland. The area isn't the greatest, but it's pretty safe. You don't have to worry about anybody hurting you there or anything like that...but...some of the neighbors that have been moving in lately have the filthiest mouths.

Also, our vacancy isn't furnished, so probably not what you're looking for. But...if you can't come up with anything else...the unit is available and the house is quiet (one other tenant on the 2nd floor...a single schoolteacher). PM me if you'd like.

As far as other locales...there is a housing place on Mendon Rd in Cumberland...I can't remember the name, but I know it's pricey. A PP actually already mentioned it...The Crossings? I know they have furnished apartments. A previous tenant of ours rented from them.

Definitely stay out of Woonsocket...it's just not a very nice city. Try craigslist for apartment house listings (probably won't find much that's furnished though). Try wrentham, ma too. It's pretty close depending on what part of woonsocket you're working in. Plus wrentham has a really nice outlet mall.

I'm assuming that you're being relocated here. Is the company paying for it? If so, the relo company can help you. My husband and I relocated here last fall, but we didn't take advantage of asking the relo company for help. We did end up in a converted mill apartment and from my experience they are not all they're cracked up to be. Our apartment is beautiful but the area is awful among other things. I like the management so I'm not going to publicly name them here. When the heat or A/C goes on, you can't hear the TV if you're watching it. The heat comes from the exposed pipes that are close to the ceiling. Amazingly we didn't pay much for our utilities. Fortunately we had a short lease and will be moving out next month. I wouldn't recommend mill living. The apartments are cool and pretty, but it isn't all that great. We spent many weekends driving around learning about RI and the surrounding areas.

Don't rule out living in Mass either. There are some nice communities in Franklin and Bellingham and they're pretty close to Woonsocket.

I'd look into Quilter Chick's advice too. Good luck with your move.

stay out of the mill rehab complexes..those places are more expensive
than they are worth in this market, the owners spent a lot of money designing
them, and will charge high corporate rates.
rent is pretty cheap in RI.
contacting sweet pea about her vacancy is a good idea, she's a nice lady !

Default Apt hunting

I do think I gave her some honest advice, to stay away from the three she had listed earlier, but she did not take it unfortunately. And I will stand by my recommendation(s) for the DePasquale Realty properties on Route 7 on the Smithfield/No. Providence line. They are highly conscientious, fussy who they rent to, and she will have quick access to Rt. 146 to get to Woonsocket and a very safe quiet environment. In my experience, the websites like rent.com, apartmentguide.com and so forth can only give an idea of the rent structures themselves. Those sites are "bought", and the best complexes don't need them. Word of mouth is usually best. (I have absolutely no affiliation with R&W other than knowing their history. One of their buildings is for 55+, but the others are not, and they do accept single professionals, but no pets at all.)
