My partner and I are planning on moving to the Boston area or the Providence area. She is an IT business analyst and I am (or will be by the time we move) a mental health counselor.
We are looking for a cute gay family friendly town that is commuting distance (preferably by public transit) to the city. We would love a cute, sleepy town with lots of nature, trails, that sort of thing but it is really important that it is gay friendly, particularly since we are planning to have a child. Any ideas?
We are open to other places but would prefer to not go too far to the frigid north or too far from the coast.
RI is as liberal a place as you can get in the US. I certainly haven't heard of any overt cases of discrimination against gay families.
However, I also am not aware of any communities composed solely of gay families.
So, if I were you, I 'd just look for the cute town. Check out the "search the forum" on this board- we have lots of cute small villages- and forget about the fitting in aspect.
Welcome to the area. To answer your question I know of several married gay couples in Attleboro. A suburb of Providence but in MA to take advantage of the gay marrage law. But really, anywhere in metro providence. Towns west of providence such as Situate, North Smithfield ect. along 295 meet your requirements as well. You shouldn't have any issues. Providence has a large LGBT community with lots of activities and events through out the year.
as a resource check out the local RI LGBT Community magazine site. Lots of scheduled events and activities to meet new people.

Those areas are more suburban residential, and I am guessing that a gay couple at the local pub or coffeshop would probably not be the norm. May be less true closer to Prov, Pawtuxet Village is quaint, and has more of an cute, arty, feel. Lincoln or Warren maybe? Nothings really sleepy anywhere near Providence.
Glad you asked, I suppose 'cute' is pretty subjective. I am looking for a town that is quaint, scenic, architecturally interesting, preferably near nature that is commuting distance by public transit to Providence.
