We are building new construction. Basement or attic? We have always had basements and are leaning towards this option. Is there a reason why we shouldn't? Is an attic more attractive in that area for some reason?
Thanks!

Personally, I prefer basements, but a lot of it will depend on the water table where you are purchasing. When the attic is finished (say with a recreation room), you have to go to the bedroom level to get to the third floor. If you are entertaining, then your company is going past the private level to get there. With the basement, you might have an exterior entrance, and even if there is not one, the private level is not accessed.

Hope that makes sense!

Can't we have both. If I had the choice I'd take a basement any day over an attic.

Thank you! Wish we could afford both. We picked the basement but started thinking there may be a reason people just do attics.

We are buying in The Ridges of Hunton...right off of Rt 33...Do you know what the table is there?

Call the county planning office. They will have everything on file. Do the costs for them include being finished?

I'd still take the basement. Is he going to least put in a set of pull down stairs and at a minimum lay down plywood up there for storage?

Have them put in the rough in for it. They have to put in hole for attic access, might as well be one for the size of pull down stairs.

Agree with everything Neil said. We just had a pull-down cut in and put in our home. And the stairs only cost about $300.
