We are buying a home in Glen Allen. We were there this past Saturday to pick out some finishes and I was SHOCKED by the smell from the Tyson's plant! I asked a waitress if there was a sewage plant around and she said the smell was from this plant! I can't believe NO ONE mentioned this little tid bit of info when we were talking about moving there! It's AWFUL. Luckily when we got to where our house was going to be built we couldn't smell it anymore but it's RIGHT DOWN THE STREET and I would imagine the new high school will get this little smell. (And by little I am so kidding...AWFUL)

Why doesn't anyone mention this?

I wouldn't mention it because I only know the part of Glen Allen that feeds into Deep Run High School and is totally unaffected by the Tyson Plant. My guess is it affects a very small part of the area and a good realtor would point it out.

I never eat Tyson's chicken. A Tyson's factory inspector told me not to ever eat it.

Not too long ago I saw some disturbing slaughterhouse footage about the horrid conditions of the chickens in the Tyson factories. It gives me the creeps.

I don't know how locked in you are to this purchase but you might want to check different wind patterns - some days might be fine, others not.

Yeah...we have been there (to the house site) about 5 times and have never smelled it. Which ever way the wind was blowing the other day my husband said is very rare...and even then it didn't come up to where the house is. So...I think we will go ahead and build it.

Its in the rural part of the county north of 295. As you go further north on 33 it becomes comes more rural. There are reasons there are little to no subdivisons nearby. Just google the map address of 13264 Mountain Rd Glen Allen, VA, 23059. Most people tend to move south of 295 or west of Nuckols. You probably have a house that is probably zoned A-1 and have more land than those who moved into the cookie cutter parts of the county. Its heavily treed so there is little to no chance you'd smell it anyway.
