Default Interviewing in Richmond

Hi! I am currently interviewing for a job in Richmond (specifically Shockoe). I grew up in the suburbs surrounding Detorit.

I am hoping to be asked down to Richmond for an interview. Until then, I have been looking at apartments online (in great hope of actually getting the job).

I am 25/F. I am looking for an apartment in a fun area that attracts young professionals (23-40). From reading other posts, richmond (like most cities) has bad areas. I am obviously looking to avoid those. I have seen many loft in Shockoe, and the west end (planet zero, river lofts at tobacco row and so on). I love what i am seeing from the photo's, but would like some opinions on the area. I am willing to have a 20min. drive to work. it is more important for me to be in an area where i can meet people.

Thanks!!!

You will love the shockoe area. It is in the city, so crime is around, but you will also find that it is where the young professionals congregate. the tobacco row apartments are very sought after. Planet zero is in a section of town that is still up and coming. It is a little edgier. I like it, but I lived in Richmond for over 20 years, so I have a little perspective. I would check it and see how you feel. the area isn't as as built up as shockoe and tobaco row. and of course you should check into the fan area. You would have to do a private rental, not really apartment complexes. It is where VCU is located, but the further west you go, the further you are away from the college. There is Carytown, which is a shopping area on Cary Street for strolling. There are restaurants and bars sprinkled throughout the area, so a little something for everyone. Google The Fan in Richmond to see it.

Good luck.
