Default Colonial Heights and getting to the beach

Just wondering how bad the traffic is getting to the beach on the weekends?

Which beach and from Colonial Heights?

Personally, I'd recommend taking I-95 south to 460 east to get to Va. Beach or the Outer Banks.

Traffic to the beach on weekends is a nightmare if you mean Norfolk or Virginia beach (the closest would be Norfolk). After about 2 p.m. on Fridays, expect a 10-30 minute wait at the tunnels. Williamsburg is always congested and usually has a few accidents. There are signs with an a.m. radio channel (510?) that gives traffic information. We go every single weekend (we have a condo there) and if we have to leave here after 2, we just wait until about 6 and get there late. The 2 hour ride has taken us up to 4 1/2 hours. Sundays, coming back is not as bad, but there is stand still traffic on 64 often. Any day of the week, avoid the tunnel area between 3-6, if possible.
