Default Richmond

I would say something really nice about Richmond if I could only think of one thing to say, so I will leave it at that. My company sent me here three long years ago, and I told my boss, he finds me a new location in six months or I will find another company. I have lived all over the country and I have never had an area that I found to be anything like Richmond, Va. I will jump for joy, when I receive my new orders and finally roll in my car out of here!

But the fact is, the city/county/metro/whatever, is growing extrememly fast; especially compared with most areas of the country. But to your point about Atlanta vs. Charlotte, I'd agree with you totally. The two places cannot be compared in any aspect, in my opinion.

Sorry to hijack, back to the Richmond conversation...oh yeah...nice town, love the baseball stadium...oh and that new outdoor mall, ha!!!
To update your stats, Mecklenburg County NC had approx 867,000 people as of July 1, 2007. City of Charlotte 665,000. Meck County pop increased by 32,000 people between July 1, 2006 and July 1, 2007. During the same one year period, the Charlotte metro area grew by 79,000, reaching almost 2,000,000, about twice the population of the Richmond metro area. Truly, comparing Richmond and Charlotte is like comparing apples and oranges.

You know what, if you can't find what's good about Richmond, we don't need you here. Yeah, you got to look, because it may be in between two run down abandoned buildings, but it's there. The music scene, the art, and the history is all there, and is different from anywhere else in the country. So please, get out of Richmond. We don't want you here.

Wow... I am sure that this type of attitude is what drives people out. I feel sorry for transplants who don't have connections when moving to RVA. People don't really go out of their way to make you feel welcome. So glad I moved away!

Default Good News,Bad News

Good News - I was able to get the job I requested!!!!!
Bad News - I cannot move to Richmond through Relo until June of 09.

I guess the best way to look at it is that I will have plenty of time to look at properties, locations, and neighborhoods.

Just some updated news on the Charlotte comments. Charlotte has now been placed as #10 of the Top 10 most miserable cities in America and Richmond was placed as #7 of the top 10 locations to live for opportunity.

Until I can come back to Richmond, where I left my heart 11 years ago, I will maintain my home in the smog filled, gridlocked, crime ridden Atlanta Metroplex.

400 days and counting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Default Comparing Richmond to Charlotte?

I was curious to why the comparisions between Richmond and Charlotte? Is it just opinions from those in one city versus the other or are there other over arching trends (i.e. one city is stealing or has stolen major industry, jobs sports team, residents etc) from the other? I have frequented both Cities and they both have alot to offer depending on they type of City (historic versus more modern), employment opportunity based on career type, etc
