Default Raleigh area vs. Richmond area

Hello,

Need some inside information regarding the Richmond area.

Are the schools on a traditional calendar or year round? Which is the best county, city to live in as far as nice homes around or under $300K maybe with 1/2 - 2 acres of land, 2 story 2200sq.ft., great schools, girls soccer, great High school band program and IB Programs, mens softball league and other leisurely things to do. How overcrowded are the schools? We are trying to decide between the Raleigh area and Richmond. Been to Raleigh 20 times, never been to Richmond area, have heard great things though. Can anyone give me an idea of similarities or differences. According to CNN Money cost of living calculator we would have to make $10,000 more to live in Richmond. I heard VA taxes you to death. Can anyone tell me exactly what gets taxed and about how much? If a family of 4 (2 teenagers, 12 & 15) was trying to make a family budget, what things would we have to consider if we lived in Richmond area, we live in Florida now and there are not a lot of taxes.

We need to decide very quickly, so any helpful info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Cathyfla
