Hi,

I'm moving to Richmond for work at the end of the month. I have never been to the city and I won't be able to visit until I move there. I am very concerned about finding a place to live in the city that is safe and affordable. I don't want a long communte either. I will be working in the Jackson Ward area.

I am looking for an apartment/condo/townhouse to rent. I will be living on a budget so I would like my rent to be below $850 a month. I am a single woman and safety is my number one priority.

What are some areas to avoid?

What area/neighborhoods should I look at?

Thanks for all of your help!

Not really much to go on, but a) you should have no trouble at that price, as long as you are reasonable in expectations. You should be able to get anything froma one bedroom in the fan to a larger place in bellevue/ginter park etc.

Avoid anything east that is not church hill. And if you are really scared about safety, avoid church hill - its not that bad, but its edgy.

If you want a concrete recommendation - look in the Fan or Museum district. You'll be happy there. Basically east and west side of the same neighborhood.

Not sure what else to say - you didn't give us much to go off of. Any commute in the city will be really really really easy, so that doesn't matter.
