This is certainly not scientific, but we moved to Spotsylvania County (Fredericksburg) in 1990. After two years, I was diagnosed with asthsma. Soon after, our young son was also diagnosed with it.

We relocated out of the state in 2002 and we both have cleared up!

I never had allergy problems before moving to Richmond, but I moved here in 2005 and in 2006 I started having really bad allergy attacks from pollen every Spring. The first month of Spring is the worst time of the year for me, there is no word for how miserable I am during that entire month, regardless of what medications I take (and trust me I have tried them all). I think the same is true for Atlanta, GA and many other parts of the South, because of the climate. I would have left but I LOVE Virginia the remaining 11 months of the year, so I am staying. But I would not recommend anybody with permanent allergy/asthma symptoms to move here or anywhere in the South!! Just my $0.02.

I just moved to Midlothian 3/4 months ago. I have a 3 yr old son (almost 4) we have been in the hospital 7 times, 4 he was admitted. In addition he now sees an ENT, pulmonary specialist, allergist, neurologist along with his primary pediatrician. I would NEVER recommend any1 moving here if their child has asthma. We moved from las vegas, dry climate so I know most of it has to do with a new climate but I am over him being medicated & going through trauma that I can't help with....ok & part of this is me venting

I live in richmond and my asthma is really bad. It was really bad when i lived in NY too. I think what's important is that you get treated, and take your medication as prescribed. So really, it doesnt matter where you live, you just have to know how to keep it under control.
