i am, possibly, getting a job that is a few miles south of fredericksburg, va along 95. i want to live in henrico co. in the godwin school district, since i have children and my spouse is a teacher. i would not mind a commute that had me on the road 1 hour each way, as the distance is 50 miles, but i am hesitant to accept more than that.

i would love any advice about what the commute is like going AWAY from glen allen, northbound, in the morning and TO glen allen, southbound, in the afternoon/evening.

how much of the route is blocked by dc commuters? (we left nova several years ago, in part, because of the congestion and uncontrollable growth.)

thanks!

You should be fine, however you might hit some back up in Caroline County around the Ladysmith exit. Depends on the time of day you're driving.

Not an Ideal commute, but the Real Bottlenecking Doesnt Start until Massaponax, around exit 126 so YOu should be ok, the afternoons, are going to be longer sometimes though, because alot of times the 295 exit towards Norfolk slows traffic alot. but other than that its doeable.

You can always hop onto Rt 1 if 95 is too bad. Of course everyone else may have the same idea.

It would be less than an hour, most days.

But why not move to Spotsylvania? Closer, good schools.

i have always liked richmond and have spent the past few years in a small town that was too cramped for me. i am partial to henrico county because of the schools, so i am thinking that i'll have a crazy commute until my kids graduate from high school and then move closer to work i feel the need. what schools would you suggest closer to fredericksburg?

When we lived there I was really happy with Spotsylvania county, and heard Stafford county schools are good, too. If you want to stay in the northern Richmond area, you may want to look at Hanover county, too. They've got excellent schools.
