Default PRESCHOOLS in West End

Hi, we are fairly new to Richmond and I am having difficulty finding recommendations for preschools in our area. There are certainly plenty to choose from but I would like to hear about which preschools (my daughter turns four on saturday) are considered the best.

Thanks!

Can you be more specific in terms of what you are looking for? I assume you are looking for morning preschool. Also, do you think your daughter will start kindergarten next year or wait another year? If she is starting kindergarten next year I would be more concerned with making sure she was in a program geared toward that goal. I have found there are social preschools which is what I wanted and then there are more academic preschools (I felt like I could handle that at home and honestly public kindergarten is primarily social so I didn't think an academic preschool was what I wanted). Also, do you want/not want/don't care about whether it is religious based? We did the Shady Grove Y preschool which was okay. We also did the Child Enrichment Center at Mt. Vernon which I would highly recommend if you want a Christian preschool. Wyndham Child Development Center also has a preschool with a strong reputation, but I would think it is hard to get into--but who knows in this economy. Derbyshire Baptist and Gayton Baptist also run nice preschools. Richmond Montessori has a strong reputation but is very expensive and you have to buy into Montessori and it probably isn't the right choice for just one year. West End Montessori is supposed to be great too and is a little less expensive than Richmond.

My kids go to a baptist church pre-K (we are not baptist) and we LOVE it. It is about $500 per month for TWO kids and that's 5 days a week. For 4 year olds, there is also a 3 day a week option. (and maybe 2 days a week? I know they have that for 3 year olds) A friend of mine is on a wait list for Mt Vernon (I think) but I am very happy with where we are. If you would like additional info, DM me.

$250/child/month is dirt cheap for 5 days. You did well, twinmma! I think I paid about $300/mo. for four days at Mt. Vernon two years ago--it was well worth it though. Very loving environment but they do make the kids follow the rules which my son needed to learn to make the kindergarten transition successful.

It is reasonable...They only go though from 9-12, but it seems to be almost perfect for our schedule. (not gonna lie, between working and kids, I could use another hour with them at Pre-K, lol!) Yeah, I have heard great things about Mt. Vernon!
