Unfortunately, for something professional, we have to drive to DC or Baltimore for this. It all depends on what you are looking for when you consider Richmond. I'd consider Charlotte, NC over Richmond or even Boston, MA over Richmond.

Just my 2 cents

That was well said, Richmond is boring if you are in your 30's. You're right, unless you like to go clubbing or one is in their 70's, RIC just doesn't cut it. Charlotte has far more to offer, and is cheaper too. I'll be there in 4 months and counting every minute...tick tick tick.

My family and I left Richmond 2 years ago and I have regret it ever since. We moved to Rocky Mount, NC for cheaper cost of living (BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER!!!) We left because of lack of jobs and we lived in the boonies!!! Now we live in Calvert County Maryland (not too far from DC) and everything is soooo expensive over here. We can't even afford to purchase a home because it is so expensive. I really miss Richmond. If I could do it all over again, I would have never left.

I live in the Tampa Bay Area, but lived for quite a few years in Virginia Beach and Richmond area; we had many Christmas Days in the 60's, as a matter of fact, our last Christmas was 70 degrees, which turned out to be warmer than our first Christmas in St. Peter Beach (67-degrees). Don't forget, Richmond is still well below the Mason-Dixon Line, and winters are still considered mild. Richmond at Christmas is beautiful, and so is the weather--but one poster made it seem like Nashua or Minnetonka.

All and all, we love the Gulf Coast, but we do miss Virginia.
