Is getting a 3 bedroom, dog friendly, rental house, in a safe area of inner city Richmond for $1,000 a month a dream? Can not find one, so maybe it just does not exist. I looked on craigslist, anywhere else to look? Need a house, or a townhouse/duplex/triplex/condo, but NOT apartment). Any ideas? THANKS!

you want to be in the city itself?.. probably not affordable in a safe area there.. but you can definatly find one in a good area of Chesterfield or Henrico County

If you are looking to live in the CITY of Richmond your best bets for something "safe" will be in the fan district or museum district. If you go towards the edge of the city in any direction you will start to run in to the projects and section 8 housing... You can probably find something in the west end (about 6-10 miles) for that price and you will be much safer.

I've lived in the Fan for 3 years... never had any problems. When I lived on the east side of Richmond off of Nine Mile is where I had some problems. It was really cheap though.

You could do it on east side easily. I wouldn't... it deserves the reputation. You can do it on southside, parts of whiich do not deserve the reputation. On southside neighborhoods are much nicer south of the railroad tracks, and or the more west they get. If you are close to Jefferson Davis, the reputation starts getting pretty accurate... Same as you go up hull towards Manchester. Hull in particular matters a LOT - big difference between brandermill and murder-ville
