Default Pictures of Beautiful Richmond.....

I have posted a few of these before. These are from my collection. If anyone would like to add- feel free ! This should disspell these notions about Richmond being "a slum".

Pictures are worth 1,000 words

Vasinger, nice photos! My wife and I just moved to the area (the fan) and we love it here. I was very surprised by Richmond, because it has a very vibrant, deep downtown (with a nice skyline), but it has so much beauty with its history and tree-lined streets. I also love that it's a walkable city. The fan, carytown and museum districts are truly unique in Richmond; a plethora of culture and character! Thanks for posting the pictures!

Great to hear you're enjoying yourself in Richmond. I have a lot of photos I could post, just haven't really been up to it yet.

So glad you enjoy it ! I also live in the Fan. Some people on here lately seem to think downtown is a slum or not half as nice as the utopia known as Charlotte. Maybe they just have a skewed perspective.

I think that some people think that a nice city is a city that has the clean-cut look to it. I've seen some people refer to Charlotte as "plastic", and in a sense I agree with that. Charlotte is a large, up-and-coming city that is experiencing what many cities experienced back in the 1940s, 50s and 60s. They experienced fast growth. If you look at the growth of Richmond over the past 200+ years, it's been very steady, and it hasn't experienced a boom of population. In a way, I think that's very good. The city's developed culture and character. It's also been a successful city since its founding in 1607.

I guess what I'm saying is that Charlotte (and every city in the US) is great in its own way. If you want to live in the suburbs and live in a city with brand new skyscrapers and brand new highways; thus living in a fast-growing city, then Charlotte is your place. I would certainly not say that Richmond is a slum, as my wife and I feel comfortable walking in many nice and beautiful areas (i.e. the fan, shockoe slip, most of downtown, the riverfront, the capital, monument ave, the museum district, etc...). I suppose Richmond has the kind of character and culture that somewhere like New Orleans has. It's not plastic (not in a bad sense, but just new) or clean-cut, but it's beautiful and unique!

Thank you! I've been very frustrated reading posts in the Richmond forum (as well as a few others). It's almost as though people forget that every city in the U.S. is what makes our country so great. Just because you like Charlotte, doesn't mean you should trash Richmond. It's counter-productive, especially for those that love Richmond and are trying to make it a better place!

Wow Vasinger, those pix are beautiful. I just happened upon your thread while browsing, and I must say that I had no idea that Richmond has such beautiful architecture. Thanks for sharing your pictures.

Those are EXCELLENT photos !

Much better than mine. Yers actually capture Richmond as a vibrant, active city, not some shrine to Gone With The Wind.
