Just read that Redskins training camp will be held in Richmond area in 2013 (they didn't give exact location yet) but I would think that will be a financial boon to the area as well as alot of fun.

Pittsburgh territory truly extends throughout Applachia which includes West Virginia. So its not THAT far.

In driving distances it goes like this
2 hours to Washington (Redskins)
3 hours to Baltimore (Ravens)
4.5 hours to Philly (Eagles)
5.5 hours to Charlotte (Panthers)
5.5 hours to Pittsburgh (Steelers)
6 hours to NYC

All of these teams have at least a minimal presence in Richmond.

I just heard as well. Thank you Gov. McDonnell (sarcastically). Seriously though, this is a good economic thing for the area.

Interesting...I live in SoCal and we have tons of Steeler fans here too! Much more so than any other "outside the area" team, other than the Raiders.

redskins have always practiced in ashburn, VA. majority of their players live in VA. the team plays in MD. if anything DC has absolutely nothing to do with the redskins..NOTHING!

back in the day Redskin territory stretched all the way to N.Carolina. there's still some loyal fans out there.

steeler fans are everywhere..arguably the most supported team(cowboys come close)

It's always been great rooting for my fellow refugees from NY, the Giants, down here! There are also a lot of Eagles and Dallas fans here.

If Richmond was actually awarded an NBA expansion team or relocated team, what would you like them to be called?

For a town that is so close to DC, I don't think Richmonders are passionate about the Skins at all. I wonder if that had anything to do w/ the Redskins scouting Richmond for a potential training site. I wonder if they are hoping it will entice more Richmonders to support the Redskins.
I agree that there certainly is a large fan base for the Steelers here. The reason you see more Steelers fans at the bar rather than Redskins fans is because most of the Redskins games are broadcast locally. Steelers fans must pay extra to watch (most) games, or go to a bar.
