Assuming you are an Asian Indian you will be VERY happy in Richmond.

It has an expansive Indian expat population. By some estimates 7000 families of Indian descent live in the Richmond MSA. It depends on what you like. The West End, smaller version of NoVa with less traffic, is where the biggest congregation of Indians live. Richmond is changing and is becoming very diverse in a good way. People are accepting contrary to the popular belief of being the capital of Confederacy. The roads, which were my biggest gripe, are getting repaved mostly I-95. Do NOT judge Richmond from the highway! It is a true gem with so much to offer. It is gritty but very historic, green and the planners are changing the Downtown and giving it a new, eclectic look. I 've been here about a year and a half. Didn't fall in love with it initially but it is truly a very nice city. There are tons of restaurants of various cuisines representing various cultures. Indian/ Pakistani restaurants in particular abound. It is a medium-sized city which is growing out of the shadows of DC which people love to compare it with. In my opinion thats not fair. However, if you are looking for a city with crazy nightlife Richmond may not be the place for you. Just come with an open mind and you 'll be happy. There will always be complainers and Richmond haters but pay no heed.

I am not Indian by the way....Welcome to Richmond!
