Richmond is not diverse
I would not advise any African American to move to Richmond VA. It is very "old south". I am a transplant here from Norfolk & I am looking to move back.
Despite the fact that the demographics indicate that it is majority black you wuld not know it based on the cultural offerings they have here.

I would whole-heartedly agree. Although I have not lived there in 20 years, I can't help but notice how most of my family members (we're African American) that have college degrees are not able to break into their field, and when they have left the area, they did. Case in point, a cousin who ALWAYS loved music (specifically classical) and majored in music. As gifted as he was, he could NOT break into the Richmond Symphony Orchestra. He accepted a position in San Francisco and worked his way up to manager of their symphony orchestra. He has lived all over the country because other orchestras kept offering him more money to come to their city. Even after 20 years he still has not been able to get a position in Richmond.

I find it amazing that you post this comment less than a week after the 2nd Street Festival.... Did you attend?
What cultural offerings are you expecting that are not provided?

Obviously someone wanting their life handed to them instead of seeking out their own comfort zone. Home is where you make it.

Richmond is extremely diverse. It just so happens that a lot of the black people that live here live in poverty. Maybe that's why you don't see them.

in the city (down town), as a white, i'm a minority. but then there's a lot more to diversity than just black and white, or maybe that didn't cross your mind - there's plenty of diversity downtown. most cities have white suburbans

West End near Short Pump couldn't get more diverse! More Asians though?
