Default Getting from DC to Richmond

Does anyone have any advice on the best route to take from DC to Richmond at 6pm on a Friday night? Or am I just going to have to deal with the I-95 traffic?

Any help would be great! Thank you!

I agree - I think I-95 is your only way in and it's not fun.

Depending on where you are in DC, you could head South-East and hit 301... that'll take you to Richmond. ($3 toll bridge though) That probably would be less crouded... but it depending on where you're starting from, it might be too far out of the way to be worth it.

Good luck.

301 is definitely less crowded. Could always try Rt.1 to skip a jam but more often than not traffic is just as bad as 95

You could always head west towards Middleburg and then south to Warrenton from there head towards Fredericksburg.

a bit out of the way but not as harrowing as 95. you can then take 95 or RT1 from Fredericksburg.

I did that route for almost a year

also depends upon what time of day you leave DC and where in DC you are located

I take 29 South from Gainesville to 17 south into Fredericksburg. Then 95 south.
