Glen Allen
What are the prices of the houses in Milbrooke? It sounds awesome. I have 3 yr. old and 20 month old twins. My husband will be traveling a lot and I am a stay at home mom. Are there many other transplants in your subdivision? Thank you for being so helpful thus far.

Close to Short Pump Shopping Center which is a beautiful outdoor mall, however, every store you can think of is a short distance. The playgrounds around the area are awesome. THey have movie night throughout the summer at the playgrounds outdoors which is really fun. We were closed to Innsbrook which has concerts every wed night during the summer. Awesome bands-Lynyrd Skynyrd, Sugarland, Hootie & the Blowfish, Hall & Oates, tons more. I miss the area terribly and would stay in my house if I could. Oh, and the preschool we went to was the best!!!! It's not a bad ride to DC either. My family is in Pa and I was up there all the time. My house is awesome if your interested. If not, check out the area anyway.

Hahahhaaha nice! I am from Natick and live in Richmond. I would reccomend Ashland, Short Pump, or even Fredricksburg if you really need to be closer to DC. I personally dont like it here after 5 years but I also have made my own bed. 300K will get you a sweet home if you do your homework. Def less pace here and a gen nicer attitude in people. good luck, i miss Natick so much but would never move back tot eh NE. Good luck!

We are moving to VA too! My husband will be working in Mechanicsville. I have heard that the best place to leave is in Henrico County west end. We are looking in glen allen. I am a real estate agent in NC so I am planning to apply for my license in VA. We have three daughters. One will stay at college in NC...the other two are 9 and 6. I share your sentiment. It is scary to be moving to an area you know nothing about! Good luck to you!

We lived in the West End area/Glen Allen from 2004-2008, loved it. We have since been relocated to the Mid West, our kids stayed in Va. Can't wait to move back! Miss our kids plus miss the area.

Moving to Glen Allen
To Mass. mom looking for houses under $300 K in commuting to DC:
Glen Allen is one of the best areas of suburban Richmond in my experience.
Schools nearby are some of best. Hanover area worth checking; both are just off 295 and maybe 2+ hours from DC on a very good day.
95 traffic can be a real nightmare. I personally love the Henrico County area, think you would too..

Possible move to Richmond
Another possible transplant from New England!
Reading the threads, it sounds like Henrico County is a great place to live.
I would prefer a less densely populated area within the county but feeding into Deep Run High School. Any suggestions?
Can anyone tell me about Deep Run High School? Are there other high schools I should consider?
What would the commute look like from Henrico County to Richmond @ 6 - 7 AM? Then back @ 6 pm? Is the traffic as horrible as NoVA?
Thanks.

Most of the homes assigned to Deep Run are in planned subdivisions on small lots. I grew up in CT (on 2 acres) and there's not much in Deep Run that is not densely populated. Shady Grove Estates (starting in high $300s) and Cross Creeek ($600k and up) are a few exceptions.
Godwin High School also has an excellent reputation.
Traffic is nothing like NoVa although there are some posters who like to claim Short Pump traffic is horrible. After having lived in NoVa, Chicago and Tampa I don't see what people are talking about. Can't help out specifically with the commuting issue because my husband stays in Western Henrico and I'm a SAHM.

I have many kudos for Deep Run High School. We were relocated in 2004. My daughter was just starting High School. We moved into the Wyndham development-after a lot of debating back and forth.
We were moving from the country-LI/NY. We were reluctant at first because of the small lots. We had an acre in NY.
We loved it-the area had a lot of relo people-our daughter made friends and excelled. Even though we were country people the area was great. Everything within reach but you are not in all the traffic-plus when it came time for her to drive we did not have to worry about the windy country roads.
Fast forward to today-we have been relocated again out to the Midwest-our kids are in Va-will not move. We are looking forward to moving back!

Wondering as well
If we put our daughter in Montessori school is there really
a reason to spend the extra $75k - $100k for Henrico?
