My wife and I are looking at a house in Aylett about 26 miles from Richmond where I work. Google maps is saying the commute on 360 is about 35 minutes. I would like to know how realistic that is and about the commute-time traffic on Rt 360 (and 195 and 64 right near Richmond). [FONT=Arial]Any first-hand information is very welcome!

Thanks!

It is probably close to that if you get off of 360 (at route 288) and then take the Powhite Parkway (about $5.00 a day roundtrip, but is probably cheaper with an easy pass) into town. 360 doesn't have that much traffic (all lanes are full but move) but there at a ton of traffic lights if you follow it all the way into downtown (probably takes 50 minutes that route).

compared to most metro commutes, it's hardly a commitment.

Aylett is in King William County on the opposite side of Richmond where spencer114 is talking about. There are no tolls.

Google Maps is correct, it will be about 30-35 minutes from Aylett to downtown Richmond on 360 West and most of that is sitting in traffic (it's not that bad, though). You will not hit any traffic until you get to Mechanicsville which is only about 10-15 minutes tops from Aylett. There will be heavy-ish traffic starting at the Lowes/Firestone all the way down to downtown. It's not that bad.

Aylett is nowhere near Interstate 64 or I-195. The main road is 360 and the nearest interstate highway is 295. You won't hit 64 UNTIL you get into the city of Richmond.

yikes!
well 360 into Richmond from that part of the metro would be much easier. 35 minutes seems completely doable.

35 minutes is doable to downtown. However, as always, "Richmond" is a generic term. Might be a good idea to let us know where in the city you're talking about.
