Publix's selection is excellent. It is far from being weak.

Well we are getting spoiled by Kroger Marketplaces and soon to be spoiled by Wegman's. I don't see how the selection at 50,000 square foot stores can compete.

Rather than worry about the competition these markets are experiencing maybe some could be persuaded to open in locations currently under served like Glenside/Staples Mill where the Martins just closed.

Kroger Marketplace stores compete directly against supermarkets and hypermarkets like Walmart Supercenter and Super Target. Wegman's is a supermarket with restaurants.

That would be because they can't...

I'm a bit bemused by this discussion. And the assertion that Publix has a great selection I just can't take seriously - reminder, I worked there. I'm pretty familiar with the selection.

On the plus side, they are great at teaching you how to mop. Seriously. I've been a mopping machine ever since

I have shopped at Publix. Its selection of items is far better than other competitors. It has private label products its competitors do not have (i.e. whitening mouthwash).

I didn't mean marketplace. My Kroger is a 91,000 square foot grocery store.

Lets remember Publix's main competitor on Nuckels Road will be Food Lion, I strongly believe that those shoppers will be more than happy to jump ship and switch allegiance. I haven't been in that Food Lion but if it's like most then it is due for a major update.

Totally agree. But that's a small part of a big plan from what I understand. That Food Lion is atrocious. It's my closest grocery store but I only go once a month if that.

Most Kroger Marketplace stores are up around 120,000 square feet in size.
