Hello folks -

I know it sounds silly, but folks do it - if the perks are right.
Anybody, or anybody you know ever commute to work from HR to Richmond or vice versa?

I'm thinking drive to Amtrak station and climb aboard?

Thanks y'all!

I did for 4 months. From Newtown Rd in Va Beach to Mechanicsville. Although longer it was much less stressfull than riding into the Naval Base each morning.

I am doing the Newport News to Richmond drive daily. It is grueling. The 64 corridor is often littered with accidents. I haven't looked into Amtrak - which would eliminate the traffic headache, but might be considerably more $$$. Although, with gasoline prices back on the rise, alternative mode of transport might be in order. Good luck and if you are ever looking for a carpool buddy, let me know.

I did the commute for over 10 years, and it got worse every year, I-64 needs 3 lanes at the least, move to Williamsburg, James city, west point if the perks are worth it the move would be worth it, I had a retirement lurking near and that kept me going as the traffic and accidents increased, I used to work the night shift so as to have less traffic, this is my first time in years I haven't had to do the daily drive and I looking back,I really dint know how I did it.

FWIW, Amtrak monthly passes often offer a significant discount from the regular, one-way rate.

often Amtrak is delayed between wash.dc and Richmond coming south, you can always get out of Newport news on time and I think it leaves around 9am,not a good time to leave for work in Richmond, it probably takes 1 to 1 1/2 hrs to get to main st station.
to bad it doesn't leave at 7 am
