I haven't seen snow in 8 years (VA). Winters are mild, spring and fall are way good, summer is relieved by live entertainment and AC. VA has mountains, beaches and bluegrass and Washington DC is nearby.

If you like Garrison Keillor and Swedish meatballs go to Minnesota. Just kidding, I've heard nice things about the Twin Cities.

Choose your poison.

Wink VA, but NOT due the 'global warming' reason

To ans your question: VA any day but this is my opinion many others may share: Choose MN if you love a 'tax anything that moves/breaths' state (all in the name 'of the children' of course), bad weather in winter (5 mo out of year) and I'm sure alot of people would wecome some 'global warming' during Dec-Apr there!!!, your car rusts apart also in this same timeperiod, even when everthing thaws better stock up on caseloads of bug spray, summertime in MN is damn awful, weather is great it's the mosquitoes, and yes this is speaking fm experience hunting and fishing in July-Aug timeframes! Other than the above neg. on MN, the people are nice and polite and have realitively good to exc school systems, and in lots of areas (not all) crime is low.

And about this 'global warming' scam... what a scam it is, just a ideology fleece job.. science can't be up for a vote, either it is or it isn't. That's why the CEO of the Weather Channel and others are in the process of suing Gore Inc and his minions for they're guilt trip/scare tactic fictional movie (yes fictional, Gore Inc tech director even admitted to 'doctoring' photos/comp. generaterated/and even using shots fm Day After Tommorrow movie!!!) and way to make you 'feel better' is to send us money for 'co2 footprint' reduction, carbon 'footprint' etc.... News flash, CO2 is not a 'pollutat', plants need this, and if you want to cutdown, just don't breath! We have trouble predicting the '3 day outlook' even with all of the computer models, advancements, etc... much less 2 wks-1 yr-50-100yrs fm now. Greenland was called 'Greenland' for a reason...look it up. And who is to say that 'warmer planet' is necessarily bad? Much more can be grown (for food, not gas!) etc... what made this Gore dummy the 'super guru'? Cause he put together a fabricated movie to pass it off as legitimate maxim science?

History is full of 'cycles' cooler/warmer/more precipation/less precipation/droughts/floods/storms/etc... a while back 'the experts' thought we'd be in a 'colder period' now, so go figure. Gore doesn't want to give up on his cash cow climate enterprise, absoultally amazing how this is mandatory viewing in many schools and is treated as gospel, not an opinion of Gore's, with no other side to the story. What a brainwash.

Gore Inc will never sit in for a real debate (not cuddle club reporters asking easy yes questions) on this whole 'issue' cause he knows he'll have his heinie handed to him and expose him for a fake/fraud/mental lightweight he is. But the armor of protection is cracking and will break it wide open when he is summoned to court in NY soon. You like our food for gas program?, higher gas prices?, thank the Gore club and other socialists/marksists. Who in right mind would take food (corn/etc..) and turn it into gas, when it takes almost a gal of fuel, to produce a gal of 'ethonol'??!!!.... Sorry but I get worked up when people blame things they can't control/understand (ie the weather, earthquakes, storms, ocean currents, gravity pull etc...) and somehow convience other 'sheeple' that by driving a hybrid, living in a cave, recyling tolietpaper, using ethanol, wearing 100% recycled clothing is somehow going to make a 'difference'.. the only diff. is the higher prices. Rant off.

I recently saw an interview on PBS of all places of the CEO of Shell Corp, who when asked about his thoughts on global warming responded that the discussion of whether it's happening or not is over. He said he believes that global warming is definitely occurring. When asked if he felt that our increased carbon output since the industrialization period of the 19th century contributed to the warming trends, he said yes.

I'm not looking for a debate here, just thought it was pretty interesting to hear it coming from the CEO of a major oil company.

My best friend lives in a suburb of Minneapolis/St Paul. I thought a little bit about a relo there. But the cost of living is pretty ridiculous compared to where I am in VA...near Roanoke. But if my choice was strictly the Richmond area or MN, I'd probably say MN.

Default Minnesota isn't so bad, really

Many times I read about how cold it is here in Minnesota and that it's a state to be avoided. However, there are a great many things to do here in the wintertime and not having to be huddled up in your home infront of the fireplace waiting for spring to finally arrive and save the day.

We have the Mall of America here. You could spend two entire days shopping and taking in movies at that place.

Many Concert Halls and many bands coming to do a show.

Heck, put on a few long sleeved shirts, a warm coat, some gloves, a hat and go Skiing over at Buck Hill, Afton Alps or Welch Village. Or how about Snow Tubing over at Badlands SnowPark near Hudson Wisconsin, bring the family or your friends and have a great time. You can go sliding down the hills on toboggans or sleds and relive being a kid again.

There are even Sleigh Rides to take with a girlfriend or wife while exploring the scenery. Ever take a walk in the evening while the snow is falling? Heck, it's a winter wonderland and yes it's actually fun. We usually have only two weeks where it's particularly cold, although this last year (2008) was odd and it was colder for a longer length of time. But still, normally only two weeks, and ten out of fourteen of those days (monday thru friday) your working at your fulltime job anyways. So your really only talking about 4 days where you could be indoors doing something to beat the *real cold*.

As far as driving in the snow, there are usually less then a handful of days where you will be stuck in traffic because of the snow coming down and messing things up. However, you could just get up alittle bit earlier then normal and surprise your boss that you came into work early, and then leave earlier in the afternoon to beat the rush hour traffic going home, or just head for home after the rush hour.
How do I know all this. Well, I live 45 miles south of the Minneapolis and St. Paul area and travel into town monday thru friday. I've done it now since 1991.

Seriously, it's just not as bad as people make it sound here in Minnesota. and if you want many different things to do in each of the 4 seasons, you will have more then enough things to do to keep you busy and happy. Red cheeks aren't so bad, you might even get some gal to give you a hot chocolate for looking that way
And YES, the cold weather does keep much of the riff raff out of our state.

** Being happy where you live starts when you extend a smile, handshake, or offer help to someone else. It's amazing how many friends you'll make by just being nice to someone else first

Good Luck with your choice of states.

yea that may say some .... but the cold is only for 1 season. I mean last year we opened our pool in April. Why does everyone only compare the winter. i mean that is only 1 season. there is still 3 more to go!Spring is very beautiful and summer is great! With fall there's a nice brisk felling in the air. Seriously minnesota doesn't just have one season!!!
