I think you should check out the Hermitage Hs district. I went to school there in the 90s and it was a great mix of races and cultures with little to no discrimination. I left there and moved to a school in Chesapeake that was very much racially divided. I am now moving back to the area with my children and we are considering the Hermitage school district because of the harmonious diversity.

I agree with others.... middle class lives with middle class regardless the cultural backgrounds. mentioned 'twin hickory'
and other "short pump/innsbrook areas". There is an excellent YMCA with an extensive program at entrance of twin hickory - Shady Grove Y: YMCA of Greater Richmond - Shady Grove Family YMCA Home Page

their activities/programs are listed on the web page.

I would strongly strongly recommend the Far West end zips 23060 and 23059. I had the same concerns as you and really reserached this two years ago when we moved. Racial diversity and good schools were #1 for me! You will be fine here there are so many cultures. Go on greatschools.net and click on school makeup under an elementary school and you'll see the racial breakdown. Personally we onlylooked in this area and I didn't go with Shady Grove Elementary bc it was about 99% white which Rivers Edge Elementary was 70% and the rest were Asian/African American. People here tend to be well educated, a lot of out of state transplants and liberal. I can't say enough how nice it is here. I like the South Side/Midlothian area too but honestly there is not enough diversity over there for me.
