Hi we are looking at relocating to the area. My husband will be transferring and his job will be looked south richmond, east of chester. I like richmond and williamsburg and i dont want to be 3 or 4 hours from the beach, like to keep it 2 hours or so. We are looking for an area that we can get more for our money while not comprimising on schools and crime. Also, dont have to be right next to stores but would like to be within 30 minutes of everything, whether its richmond and williamsburg things. we like to go out. I am an LPN so any advice on good places to work out there also. Thank you for all your help.

Try New Kent County. There are a few new developments and shopping centers being built. It's midway between Williamsburg and Richmond. Depending on what you are looking for the western end of James City County might also be a consideration.
What price range are you considering ? In New Kent there's Brickshire starting in the mid to high $300's. Farms of New Kent, The Arbors starting in the $300's. Patriots Landing starting in the high $300's.. Viniterra, starting at $250k and up for building lots. All of these are wonderful communities with swimming pools, clubhouse, walking trails and other amenities. For nightlife you would have to travel to Richmond or Williamsburg. Not much to do at present in New Kent. If you want to be east of Richmond those are your choices. Chesterfield County might make a lot more sense though. Without traffic you can make it to Va Beach in a little over two hours. Great Schools. Great values in real estate. Close to many options for nursing jobs in the Richmond area.

We just located to Chester (from Spotsylvania), and so far, so good! The schools are great and the kids have adjusted well to them even with the mid-year move. So even if schools are not an issue for you, it will help with resell down the road. As for your employment, you might want to see if they are hiring at Fort Lee, which has the Kenner clinic. Fort Lee is expanding, and while I have not heard about a future expansion for the clinic, they are going to have to have more staff to cope with the increased troop levels. Plus, you can't beat those federal benefits! Good luck with the move!
