Hello there! My family is moving to Midlothian this June and we have decided to rent for at least 6 months to take the time to find our "perfect" neighborhood/perfect house. However, we have a daughter that will be in 5th grade this upcoming school year. We are looking to be in the Cosby High School district but are unsure which middle schools feed into it. Once I know that, I can go from there with comparing the schools themselves to choose where we would like to rent/eventually buy.

So any information would be appreciated, as well as advice anyone can offer relating to charter or magnet schools in Chesterfield County.

Thanks in advance!

Chesterfield doesn't always have a simple feeder pattern. Some elementary schools go to 3 different middle schools, middle schools to several high schools etc., children from Swift Creek Middle go to Cosby and Clover Hill. I would start by searching a realtor site that lets you select homes by high school (joynerfineproperties.com is one) and look for neighborhoods that go to Cosby, then you can see the Middle and Elementary schools that feed in and what neighborhoods to focus on.

The county has center based gifted programs at 4 (I think) elementary schools and 4 middle schools. Children that qualify can attend the centers if they choose. All of the High Schools offer specialty centers including pre-engineering, Leadership, IB and Cosby has Health Sciences. 8th graders apply in the winter for admission. Some of these are very competitive. The entire Richmond area can apply to attend Maggie L. Walker Governor's School in the city, a wonderful opportunity for those who get in. The County also has the Tech center that teaches everthing from plumbing and electricity to CISCO certification and LPN degrees.

Default RE: Feeder schools Cosby High

The main feeder school is Swift Creek Middle. A new middle school is being built, Tomahawk, which will also feed into Cosby. However, these 2 schools will also feed into Clover Hill High so it really depends where you live. Look on chesterfield county schools website and you can see the attendance zone maps there.

I believe the Chesterfield Schools website also allows you to enter and address to determine which school kids there would attend. However, this is a very rapidly developing area of Chesterfield and I can almost guarantee that redistricting will occur more than once in the next few years.

Check out greatschools.com. You can find what schools you want and then go to richmond.com and search real estate by schools.
