We are considering a position in Richmond for my husbands job. We have 3 kids, 11, 8 and 5. Are there any neighborhoods you would suggest that we could get a house for around 275k-300k? My main priority would be decent schools and a safe neighborhood. Ideally near-ish to sports like soccer and swimming. I have searched on here but everyone’s price range seems to be a lot higher than ours. Any help would be much appreciated !

Also are there some neighborhoods that have a higher amount of military families? Or are less transient?
Thanks!

I think that most neighborhoods in Western Henrico and West Chesterfield would meet this criteria. Houses on this side of town can be very pricey but neighborhoods like Tuckahoe and especially West Chesterfield are affluent and still have a good selection of Houses in the 300K range.

Thanks! I’ll look at those. How long of a commute into Richmond would you guess they are? That’s of less of a priority than schools/safety but very hard to judge looking at a map

Chesterfield gets you more for your money. Try Bon Air neighborhood area James River High District or Midlothian High School district.

Thanks! We don’t need a large spot or a lot of land. I’d trade those for being closer to things to do like sports for the kids. But I don’t want to sacrifice on decent public schools

Default I second taking a look at North Chesterfield

Moved from South Carolina two years ago and looked all over Richmond metro. We ended up in Bon Air/Midlothian area finding it was best mix of nicer house for the money, lots of shopping/restaurants very close by/good schools and felt safe for my wife who is a stay at home Mom. I work in downtown Richmond and commute is not too bad.

are you are still considering moving here or have found a home?

If not, I know a great realtor in the area who works for Keller Williams. He's very attentive and willing to help anyone find their forever home. He also has this app if you are still looking for homes. It is an app where you can find homes in the area & it will also tell you about the schools in the area! On the app you can see many listings that zillow and other websites cant see & you can also add filters by price.

Here is his app:
Download Richmond West - James Sun's mobile app here: http://app.kw.com/KW2CCRY1S

If you have any questions you can message me or message the realtor through the app! Hope the move goes smoothly (: RVA is a great place to live with many great schools & activities for kids
