Does anybody have experience commuting from Richmond (near west end) to Charlottesville's downtown mall? I would be working M-F, 8:00 - 5:00. Any insight on the commute/traffic is appreciated.

Traffic would be light. You’d have no trouble making the trip traffic-wise. It’s probably at least a 45 minute drive though.

I'm relocating to Richmond and will have to commute to Charlottesville.. Ideally, I wanted to live in Shockhoe Bottom or Carytown but due to the commute I chose Short Pump and even then I chose the western end so I wouldn't have to deal with the traffic on 250/Broad St which seems to see quite a bit of it especially on the eastern end.

I've done the commute a few times now back and forth and honestly you're looking at a ~50-55 minute commute (from Short Pump to downtown CVille) with minimal traffic and thankfully 64 is a 70 mile speed limit highway. The additional 15-20 mins beyond Short Pump into anywhere close to downtown Richmond was a deal breaker for me. The commute is fairly easy, just a tad bit longer then comfortable and minus the massive confederate flag seen above the trees midway. I have heard that 64 can get shutdown if there is a major accident which makes sense since it's only a 2 lane system per direction and you'll have to find some back road to get around it. It's easier to use Monticello once you get into CVille vs going through Pantops.

If you don't mind sharing, why are you relocating to Richmond vs moving to Charlottesville, where you will be working?
