Sorry for thread resurrecting but I thought adding to this thread would be better than starting my own for those looking for more information on church hill. My roommate and I are looking at a place North 29th at Leigh, is this a safe area or no? The apartment is super nice. I'm not sure i know what you guys mean by "letter streets"? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

29th and leigh is not the best part of church hill. i would stay closer to broad, and probably closer to 23rd-28th. there are plenty of great areas in church hill, just dont venture out to fulton hill.

If it's not considered the ghetto, it is basically surrounded by the ghetto and not very safe areas. It has changed drastically over the last couple of years, and has some nice apartments mixed in there now. I would avoid it. There are plenty other nicer areas to live, far from the ghetto.

Check out the Richmond Police Department's Crime Report:

I am a 76 year old resident who was born, reared, married, raised a family of five, who have found their lot in life, and I can truly say that I have lived a peaceful and successful life in Church Hill and the Fairmount Area. I still reside in the area because I choose to live here. I have never classified my community as "ghetto" because I believe that as a man thinketh, so is he. Through new homes and revitalization, Church Hill is on the rise again. It is a good place to live. Those coming to the community should have a desire to help shape the community so everyone is empowered to participate actively in the civic, political, and social life of the community. Church Hill is a wonderful place to live and as a community activist, my faith is I will see it thriving again as I once knew it. Please come. This could be a blessing that you are missing.

the area of church hill thats notorious isnt techniqually in church hill. its in church hill north, this area consists of housing projects and murder lands, my friends cousin who is like a 7 year old girl was shot from a stray here last month.
